Perfect weather – big crowd – great shooting – 26,500 clays thrown - perfect scores !
The Hay Gun Club ordered a perfect weekend and that is what they got.
Big crowd of 107 shooters and their families attended from all over NSW, VIC, SA, QLD and TAS.
Friday night commenced with a great meal of fish and chips, followed by the $1000 Rhype Transport Livestock Specialists 15 Target Handicap event. The eventual winner was young Mitchell Iles from Vic.
Saturday morning 8.30, The Club started with the 30 Target Medley event (sponsored by Betta Superstore Deniliquin), followed by the 30 Target Single Barrel (Cash Event) and the Abbey Headon Memorial Easter Gift 30 Target Double Barrel Event (Sponsored by the Headon family)
Sunday morning, another 8.30 start, The Club commenced with the 30 Target Pointscore Championship (Sponsored by D G Harrisons of Hay)
Next was the highlight of the weekend – 30 Target Handicap Event. 107 shooters competed for the chance to win a $9600 Blazer gun (Sponsored by Mialls’ Gun Shop from Melbourne). It came down to 9 possible scores 30/30, then slowly dropping back to the final 5 – 2 Juniors and 3 open shooters. With the open shooters slowly dropping off, it was left down to the 2 Junior shooters, Sam Barnes of Hay on a handicap of 21 metres and Connor Keck from Echuca on a handicap of 17 metres. Unfortunately Sam missed his 59th Target and the Blaser Gun was won by Connor Keck. Final results were 1st Connor Keck 59/59, 2nd Sam Barnes(Hay) 58/59, 3rd Adam Moroni 57/58, 4th Arthur Turner (Cobar) 45/46, 5th Dave Caccioppoli (Shells donated by Winchester Australia and Brian Doyle)
Next event was the 15 pair Double Rise (sponsored by Riverina Hunting and Fishing Griffith) Overall winner was Arthur Turner from the Cobar Club

After a very long shoot off between old rivals and a great crowd watcher – Rob Anderson eventually walked away winning the AA High Gun for the weekend shooting 329/338

Members and their families from other Club enjoyed their stay in Hay, many visited our local museums and other sites of Hay and were very impressed with the handout information supplied by the Hay Visitors Centre.
Abby- Jean Doyle raised over $150 for the NSW Cancer Council – Breast Cancer Awareness. Donation was given to the Cancer Council of NSW
The Kitchen girls were kept very busy - as well as supplying breakfast each day, fish and chips Good Friday night, BBQ on Saturday night. Kitchen was supported by IGA – Harrisons and the Hay Fish Shop. Many shooters camped on the Hay Gun Club grounds and the Hay Showgrounds. They were well looked after by Brian Mack and Linda Eade (Caretakers).
The Hay Gun Club would like to thank all those members and volunteers involved in the running of the Easter Shoot and also the local business houses who supplied prizes and prize monies to the events. It takes many hours of preparation to hold such a successful shoot.

Sunday evening during presentation Brian Doyle was awarded with a Life Membership. Brian has been heavily involved in the Club for many years and has put in many hours of dedication and hard labour towards the Club, Brian has been a member since 1981, and on the executive committee thirty years, with a total twenty one years as President.
Brian has been directly involved in the rebuilding of the Gun Club, and upgrading the facilities, including four new state of the art trap machines, floodlighting to three layouts, new toilet and shower block, new kitchen and office, and the relocation of the old RSL hall to add to the current club house.
His one main goal was to resurrect the Hay Gun Club Easter Shoot, which now stands as one of the best two day shoots on the Australian shooting calander, having just completed the fifth successful shoot.
Brian recently competed at the New Zealand Nationals, The Worlds and the ACTA 2014 National Trap Championships in Wagga. Brian was successful in winning the National Title for the 54th National Double Rise 50 Pair Event. Shooting 99/100 and having to shoot off with two other 99’s before winning the title 109/110, A total of 436 competitors entered this event.
This is Brian’s second National title in the last two visits to Wagga Nationals.
Other Club members who competed at the Nationals were Diarne Doyle, Rob Anderson, Wayne Dunbar, Samuel Barnes and Will Barnes.
Wayne Dunbar was successful in securing a position in the Mackintosh Team.
